I am GAGA over Baked and Wired

Maggie Mayd Art is now on display at Baked and Wired!
I love this bakery, nestled in Georgetown by the C&O canal and smelling of quality java and treats right from the oven. Since my move to D.C. in February, I have visited this cupcake hub more then any other D.C. site. I am ecstatic, please go and try the best cupcakes in Georgetown- seriously- not even going to mention the competition.

I feel so Pretty and Giddy

I love pretty things, who doesn't. My first prom, my mother and I dropped a whopping $450 on a ball gown with a full skirt with tutu lace underneath and a hand beaded corset on top- a fortune in 1999 in my small, East Tennessee town. We joked we would dye it white for the big day, but knew this was only a joke to appease daddy. So after the initial bride search- it was no wonder that I was drawn to the very heavy, tulled-out, bedazzled, floralized, large bridal gowns. So in honor of unordained royalty everywhere, here are a few things that remind us we all have the means to be a modern princess.

Sherri Hill
I wish I knew these dresses existed when I was 16, however there is no reason not to dress like a garden birthday cake when cash allows.

Blair Waldorf
My absolute favorite television character. Her and Scarlett O'Hara channel similar energy, and I admire their style and spirit (even if they are both brunette.) She can really wear a headband and has a sharp tongue, here are some of her quotes to use in conversation.
  • "If you cut revenge out of the Bible, there's not even enough pages to make a pamphlet."
  • "I'm not a stop along the way. I'm a destination."
  • "The most important parties you have to attend are the ones that you are not invited to."
  • "Only a masochist could ever love such a narcissist."
  • Dorota: "Ms. Blair, you are sleeping with your chocolates! Blair: "No, Dorota, we are only friends."

Tarina Tarantina

Her story, her make-up, her hair. Support Tarina products. From her new makeup line at Sephora I purchased Eye Dream Hyper shadow in Rivit. The shadow is quality but the packaging is key. The 26 hand placed gemmed compact comes in a pink lace pouch. Every time I see it- I inwardly scream- "I love being a girl!"

These headpieces are so flamboyant and feminine. I bet Blair Waldorf and Scarlett O'Hara shop here. Sparkly, ribbons, colorful- adorn your head with some kind of crown!

mmm.......Avocodough

Eat Avocados and Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

This holiday is not Mexico's indepedence day but it is the day in 1862 that the Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla.

I am drinking Peruvian Coffee and plan to go here and eat and drink green things- guacomola and margaritas!

The title of this post goes out to my brother, Matthew aka Musgrave. He isn't Mexican, but he drools over an Avocado peice any given day. Brother- this Avocodough is for you!

Completely unrelated, he is the only male under age 82 that actually drives 10 and 2. Do not let this fool you, he is a complete road hazard and should just consider driving a construction cone .

Top Notch Doodles

I love coloring utensils. A fresh waxy, box of Crayola crayons (I colored in the lines). The toxic scent of xylene in permanent Sharpie markers (I know its hazardous people). The snap of a cap on the back of a hot pink Uni-ball pen (you know you feel lucky when you accidentally borrow one of these and forget to give it back). The lines that washable markers make when you are filling in a large, space on a piece of poster board (It is harder then it looks to- like mowing a lawn or vacuuming a rug in pattern).

In college I used to take notes in all colored pens, markers, highlighters, and colored pencils. I would even sketch history maps and detail them with landscape. These techniques never got me an A, but two Fratty McDougals that sat next to me were always thoroughly impressed by my work. So this post is for you boys!

The Rembrandt of Doodling, Jen Stark's drawings. And if you think this is cool, go to her site and check out Jen's paper sculpture.

Eat this up!
Hennie Haworth's illustrations
make me feel so young, so happy and oh so hungry.
I think I strive to dress like a cupcake. If not in life, in my head and I can ink that into existence.

Lordy Lordy Earth Day's 40

Reclaimed and Renewed: Earth Day Art Show!

Where: The Old Firestation 3 (formerly Firehouse Grill)
3988 University Drive
Fairfax, VA 22030 US

When: 6pm Today

What:
Join us in a celebration of Earth Day 2010 at the second annual "Reclaimed & Renewed: An Art Show".

This art show focuses on "salvage art". Participating artists have been challenged to create something new from items others may have discarded, promoting creative re-use commitment to caring for our home. This year, we have more than 10 artists being featured. We will be asking guests to vote on their favorite creation. A very special Earth Day award will be given to the winner of the People's Choice award.

Organic, fair-trade coffee and chocolate will be served, and there is a full-service bar/restaurant on the lower level. Guests are encouraged to stick around for the "after-party" featuring DJ Exosound, benefiting the GMU Garden Association.

Parking is available on the side of the Old Firestation 3, as well as across the street near Old Town Hall, or in the new parking garage behind Panera. Exhibit will run until 10pm.

This event is part of the Spotlight on the Arts Festival, the largest arts festival in northern Virginia. - Celebrating 25 years!!

My piece below: Littered Lillys, Trashy Tulips, and Dirty Daises
