One bite.....confused, second bite....shock, third bite....repulsed. It was the worst Cupcake I have ever tasted! Seriously, I eat 1 cupcake a day on average and a mini M&M topping could not even encourage Ben aka Willy Wonka to finish them. I have had better cupcakes from my Easy Bake Oven, circa 1989.
My mouth was pulsing from the intense perservative flim, and yet no density, not one bite had a distinguishable flavor. My baking instincts told me they might be saved. So I mixed the Elvis (the banana flavoring in this tasted like the banana in Runts, not the actual fruit.) topping with some crunchy peanut butter and then mushed the bottom with my Mom's Christmas Zuccini bread. I wasted the Zucchini bread.
Also Crumbs has flavors; Candy and SnowCap which attempts to save its self by dressing them in store bought (movie theatre) candy.

HOWEVER, because the marketing is so genius, I could see myself going back to order a coffee or something.
Last Word-If you want a Crumbs experience you are better off rolling up a slice of Wonder Bread with a dollop of Cool whip on top.

Thanksgiving at home with my family in Oak Ridge, TN. Ben made the family picture this year, for the first and forever time. I am thankful for my family and the new things I learn about them.

MARINE CORPS MARATHON! My Bestie, Ellen came in town from Nashville to run it with me. It was A great way to spend Halloween, my favorite holiday. And in typical Musgrave Fashion, barely qualifyed, but did qualify for Boston in 3:40:12 on the 10th of a second!

And Here is Sandra Bullock cheering on her sister. Ben tried to sell this picture to US WEEKLY, but for some reason this "I'm just like you," casually clad celeb shot didn't make the cut, but this one did?!

Rally to Restore Sanity was on 10/30/10. Ben, Brother, and I walked 3 miles to get a taxi to the National Mall. I did not see or hear Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert.

Brother Matthew dressed as a Tea-Bagger, yes that is what you think it is.

And here was a cute poochie dressed as a shark. The rally is really speaking to him.

Queen and Victoria

The 2010 Victoria Secrets Fashion Show was spectacular! The artistry, creativity, hot bods, hot attendees- i.e. Gerard Bulter- made it an aesthetic delight. I felt like I was at my best friend's sleepover, with wings on!

And speaking of Victoria, I thought I would recognize Queen Victoria's Beloved Tri-Color King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Dash. There is a scene in the movie, Young Victoria, which illustrates how the newly crowned Queen returned home from her coronation to bathe Dash. Dash's epitaph reads:

"Here lies Dash, the favorite spaniel of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, by whose command this memorial was erected. He died on the 20th December 1840 in his ninth year. His attachment was without selfishness, his playfulness without malice, his fidelity without deceit. Reader, if you would live beloved and die regretted, profit by the example of Dash."

And speaking of Queens, it is decided- The wedding will take place in the Queen City- Charlotte, N.C. on 11/12/11 (Catholic Church doesn't budge on Saturday wedding dates- C'est la Vie-no 11/11/11.) The location will be the Charlotte City Club-located at Trade and Tryon, which is the center of the city.

And Speaking of my wedding, I have almost settled on the colors GOLD and HOT PINK. Much like Juicy Couture's prime color scheme. And speaking of Juicy, I am obsessed with my new fragrance-Couture, Couture. And isn't the bottle royal?

Ben and I went to NYC and stayed with Max and Lara in early October. We celebrated Max's 30th Birthday, after watching the Gator game in stadium seating style, we had some champagne at the Bubble Lounge. Take a moment to admire Lara's home-made birthday cupcakes. Lara and I tried out Tribeca Treats, and next time I am in the 'Apple I will be visiting Babycakes- an all Vegan Cupcakery!

While in New York, a 468.9 sq. mile city with 8,391,881 inhabitants, I happened to run into my only New York Friend from my childhood past in Oak Ridge, TN. I literally ran into Reagan running by the Hudson, right in front of the USS Intrepid.

Reagan, Jake, Ben and I had brunch at Kitchenette and then went to the
Brooklyn Musuem of Art and saw Abdi Farah's from Work of Art (my favorite BRAVO show, and yes I will be trying out for the third season.) winning exhibit!

FALL IS HERE

There is no easy way to define such a season, thus the reason for my three sub devisions of Autumn. Such a season must be further examined and these three sub categories will better provoke the experience.
Pre Fall-
Smell: burnt grass, back to school clothes
Sound: ESPN Football pump up music and lawn mowers
Weather: constant dusk and a lazy burning sun that has made the grass crispy and burnt
Food: The last cookout- knowing it is the last cookout you toast the buns and use the fancy condiments
Mood: Fresh starts, and promise, pool splashes and an oven breeze
Autumn-
Smell: Dying foilage and leather
Weather: The cutest outfits that are warm, but you don't need a jacket
Food: Halloween Candy-the originals like snickers and Reese's cups. As well as anything associated with pumpkin flavoring*
Mood: Like a Saturday morning and you just fell in love
Post Fall-
Smell: fireplaces, chimney smoke in the breeze
Weather: Cold enough for corduroy and a pink nose tip
Food: Chili and Pumpkin Pie
Mood: Warm, cozy, knowing the holidays are next. You stomach is stretched from pumpkin Flavor addiction*

*Falling victim to Pumpkin Flavor Addiction- How can one not over indulge when coffee shops offer a Pumpkin Latte, a Pumpkin muffin, or a Pumpkin Pie Chai twist gingerbread mocha! Every ice cream shop is debuting pumpkin pie milkshakes, every eatery has a pumpkin-esque option like pumpkin and butternut squash ravioli or Pumpkin and Chocolate cheesecake. And the pumpkins in the candycorn autumn mix are the best!

My good friends Lauren and Brian celebrated their wedding last week at The Inn at Little Washington. They are now currently touring Paris in bliss, but they could be touring the alleys in Detroit in bliss, if you ever met these two romantics with magnetic passion for one another. They truly do share a star-crossed, head over heels love. I was thrilled to be given an important task for their day. That is creating gluten-free, dairy-less wedding cupcakes. A lemon cupcake with almond icing with coconut and lemon zest! They loved them, well I love THEM! It is a pleasure to be in their company in person and pictures. xo

Bowling, Running, and Dolphin Watching

My brother's roommate Merek is a physics whiz and a brilliant gamer (Puerto Rico per esame) but his talent as a Potter is un-parallel! Look at the pieces he gave me Pro Bono. My cereal will never taste the same. Happy Belated Birthday to him and his awesome Birthday Suit!

On Sunday I ran the Rock'n'Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon with Michelle and Chelsea, and than "ran" into Colleen who just newly arrived from Seattle home to the East Coast. What a race, perfect post summer/pre fall weather, a nice flat course with the last mile on the board walk. And a Half Marathon PR and a lesson on hashing to boot!

Chelsea and I stayed with our follow Clemson Tiger, Leigh. Leigh and I played Field Hockey together at Clemson, if you can even say we played. Lets just say we rocked out the plaid skirts and mouth guards! Leigh lives right on the beautiful beach where we met some friendly porpoises and learned to play horseshoes.

Please note in February Ben and I were suffering from early stages of frostbite in all extremities as we braved the 3 foot high ice cottoned streets. Then July hits and Ben- from Florida- says that this is the hottest yet.

A visit from Kelly (check out her lavender blog) and Will this weekend made a reason to go out and get baked- the natural way. Please observe picture. Excluded is the one taken before entering the un-aced metro car.

The way I see it, I want it HOT or COLD . I hate the summer weather that leaves you with a mild film and b.o. residue- just soak me so I don't have to make the ambiguous shower decision. Not to mention all the sweaty boys would be more confident about approaching girls when everyone has back sweat or a beaded forehead.

I love pretty things, who doesn't. My first prom, my mother and I dropped a whopping $450 on a ball gown with a full skirt with tutu lace underneath and a hand beaded corset on top- a fortune in 1999 in my small, East Tennessee town. We joked we would dye it white for the big day, but knew this was only a joke to appease daddy. So after the initial bride search- it was no wonder that I was drawn to the very heavy, tulled-out, bedazzled, floralized, large bridal gowns. So in honor of unordained royalty everywhere, here are a few things that remind us we all have the means to be a modern princess.

I love coloring utensils. A fresh waxy,box of Crayola crayons (I colored in the lines). The toxic scent of xylene in permanent Sharpie markers (I know its hazardous people). The snap of a cap on the back of a hot pink Uni-ball pen (you know you feel lucky when you accidentally borrow one of these and forget to give it back). The lines that washable markers make when you are filling in a large, space on a piece of poster board (It is harder then it looks to- like mowing a lawn or vacuuming a rug in pattern).

In college I used to take notes in all colored pens, markers, highlighters, and colored pencils. I would even sketch history maps and detail them with landscape. These techniques never got me an A, but two Fratty McDougals that sat next to me were always thoroughly impressed by my work. So this post is for you boys!

What: Join us in a celebration of Earth Day 2010 at the second annual "Reclaimed & Renewed: An Art Show".

This art show focuses on "salvage art". Participating artists have been challenged to create something new from items others may have discarded, promoting creative re-use commitment to caring for our home. This year, we have more than 10 artists being featured. We will be asking guests to vote on their favorite creation. A very special Earth Day award will be given to the winner of the People's Choice award.

Organic, fair-trade coffee and chocolate will be served, and there is a full-service bar/restaurant on the lower level. Guests are encouraged to stick around for the "after-party" featuring DJ Exosound, benefiting the GMU Garden Association.

Parking is available on the side of the Old Firestation 3, as well as across the street near Old Town Hall, or in the new parking garage behind Panera. Exhibit will run until 10pm.

This event is part of the Spotlight on the Arts Festival, the largest arts festival in northern Virginia. - Celebrating 25 years!!

One of my best friends and Upperhands* from high school, Ellen Withrow married fellow Oak Ridger Tommy Strickler this past weekend at Hunter Valley Farm. What a day, what a couple. It was great seeing all the favorites from my hometown in one place. The Wedding was adorned with yellow tulips, blue Hydrangeas, and great music!

The Adam Lister Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a group exhibition titled, "Process of Perception". This show will feature nine artists that engage in process based art making and deal with perceptual concepts.

We make a connection between ideas and images, while developing an individual understanding through our personal visual systems. The artwork brought together in this exhibit deals with the power of perception and at times feels real and illusionary simultaneously, open to being seen by different people in different ways at different times. The ability to visualize is based on a series of mental organizations and interpretations of sensory information. Mental images are created as space, objects, and movement create a single united awareness of one's surroundings. Information that we perceive constantly transforms, changing and reinventing itself from different viewpoints. All the various textures, symbols, forms, and impressions that we encounter on a day to day basis, make up our view of "reality".

The artists in this exhibition use their materials, processes, and techniques to establish certain perceptual qualities within their work. The exhibition will include painting, sculpture, site-specific installation, and photography.

MY FAVORITE DAY

It is beautiful in D.C. right now, Cherry Blossoms everywhere, 60 degree weather, chirping birds, a new puppy, and yellow daffodils. So on Saturday when I got home from a morning run to find a clean condo, a dozen spring flowers, and a boyfriend with a packed picnic basket, I thought well isn't this just perfect. Then when Ben asked me what my perfect date would be, I answered (something like this.)

A hike at Rock Creek Park, and a picnic consisting of an egg salad sandwich and dark chocolate, eaten in a field of buttercups, next to a babbling brook, with a warm puppy between my legs. A teary, personal proposal with a glistening, brilliant diamond. Hiking back and driving through a bustling, new city to get dressed up for an evening at our favorite restaurant- the Palm, where we are serenaded to Going to the Chapel with Champagne and strawberries and finished with an Irish Coffee . The Palm in Dupont Circle where there are endless people to watch and a Cupcake shop- Hello Cupcake, where my fiance and I ordered the same pink princess cupcake. Following an amazing dinner, a dash on a tourist crowded metro to the Cherry Blossom fireworks display on the waterfront. On the metro we coincidentally sat beside some of my old Oak Ridge, TN neighbors- a little piece of home in a day of memory. We return home to crack open a bottle of fine Italian Chianti and watch, ironically- Father of the Bride on TBS. That would be my perfect date, and that perfect date happened last Saturday.

Behind the name: Scarlett O'Hara is my absolute favorite literary character. She is a strong, colorful, Irish, intriguing, like able, hate able, tenacious, stylish, southern belle. Nothing gets her down, and if it does she throws a party to fix it.. She works hard and always has fun and doesn't give a crumb about what others think. She does this all well maintaining a ladylike demeanor or at least appearing to do so. She fights mercilessly for her wants and uses people to her advantage but in the end always has a conscience. This morning I realized I have no Bailey's (where is Old Gregg when you need him?) so I gargled with strong peppermint Listerine and used the after taste to pretend when I drank my coffee. I celebrated this past weekend by running the Four Courts Four Miler. Who is that fierce braided lass?

I have a new painting ready for purchase entitled, "Soles on Fire." It was inspired by the Bank of America Chicago Marathon which a group of runners called Solemates run to raise money for Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run = Fantabulous Organization.
